The President Welcomes Families of Attacked Guard Members to the Presidential Residence

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.

He added that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.

Details on the Devastating Event

US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.

White House Offer

The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Support

Attendees came together over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.

Both they had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to support law enforcement in the capital.

Honoring Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the leader of her former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to help others.”

Funeral arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Actions and Policy Revisions

Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.

The event caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and halt granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Andrew Wolfe

Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told the program that she aimed to meet with the family.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the military.

“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
