The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Against the Dodgers
The outfielder previously helped the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by beating the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third all-time behind Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that situation besides him with his October magic," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts this season.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of this one," he added.
Toronto secured the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
