A comprehensive search and rescue effort is currently ongoing in the Caribbean region for a duo of missing sailing vessels loaded with aid cargo journeying from the Mexican coast to Cuba.

Maritime Rescue Operations Deployed

Mexico has sent naval assets and search planes to search for the missing boats, which were had on board a minimum of nine sailors, as stated by a official statement.

The boats had been projected to reach Havana on Tuesday or Wednesday, but there has been no communication from them and no confirmation of their docking, the navy said.

Background of Humanitarian Support to Cuba

The Caribbean nation has depended significantly on Mexico's over the last several weeks, as the island endures widespread nationwide blackouts.

"The skippers and their teams are seasoned mariners, and each boat are equipped with proper safety equipment and emergency beacons," a representative for the convoy said.

The nine crew members are citizens of France, Poland, the United States, and Cuba. Mexico said it has established contact with maritime rescue coordination centres from the involved countries along with their consular staff.

"The group is working closely with the relevant authorities and continue to be hopeful in the capability of the sailors to reach Havana safely," the statement continued.

Earlier Humanitarian Delivery

Previously that week, the Cuban authorities publicly celebrated and greeted with fanfare another boat that had delivered 14 tons of donated goods to the nation.

That ship, called "Granma 2.0" following the name of the boat in which Fidel Castro landed in Cuba to begin the armed struggle in the mid-20th century, brought photovoltaic panels, medicines, baby formula, bikes and food.

Larger Geopolitical Climate

Volunteers and NGOs have largely spearheaded attempts to deliver essential supplies to Cuba beginning in January, when a oil sanctions on the island nation began.

Global bodies have since highlighted ""critical" shortages of supplies, with in excess of fifty thousand surgical procedures cancelled in Cuba amid energy rationing.

Foreign policy pressure have intensified over the past months, with comments from several leaders underscoring the complicated state of bilateral relations.

In response to recent statements, a prominent Cuban official stated firmly that "the governance model of Cuba is not up for negotiation."

Accounts suggest that initial phases of discussions were initiated, although their present status remains not publicly known.

The naval forces stated it was committed to using every available asset at its command to find the boats and secure the well-being of the sailors.

To date, there has been no official comment on the lost ships by the government in Havana.
